New Indigenous Shirt Design

Behind the scenes during the offseason a very special piece of new apparel that is exclusive to the Strathalbyn Cricket Club has been designed by two indigenous members of the club. Ryan Harvey has led the design with assistance from Marley Daley.

Following is some background to the design provided by Ryan.

The image tells a story about the traditional landowners of the Strathalbyn district, the Ngarrindjeri and Peramangk people, this is detailed within the top section with the names printed along with the towns name, Strathalbyn.

There is also an “S” symbolising the name Strathalbyn and which depicts the bends in the Angas River that flows through the township and what is a well known spot where local indigenous people first gathered.

A cricket ball has been included within the design, it symbolises the game we all play together and incorporates kangaroo tracks in the stitching on the ball.

The horse head has been included as a modern twist to the design to inspire diversity and unity within our club and community. The head also has a very deliberate 12 “U” shaped drawings surrounding it to represent the twelve people who make up a team on game day.

In the top left of the design, in black is a drawing of the sun, which every cricket player wants to see on game day. In the top right of the design in white represents a meeting place which may take place anywhere after a game or before.

On the shoulders of the sleeves are our two indigenous flags.

The shirt will be incorporated into the clubs coloured playing kit but will also be available for all club members to purchase through the club shop. More details will be provided shortly.

Huge thanks to Ryan for taking the lead on this project and to Marley for his assistance and guidance. I think you’ll agree it looks fantastic and is something the lads should be very proud of delivering.
